Peek-a-Boo!

Today was a busy day, we had Jayden's 9 month doctor's appointment, so we were up bright and early, and off to Cowansville to see his lovely doctor (she really is quite lovely!). She sized him up and asked us the regular questions, and confirmed what we had already suspected: Jayden is getting slimmer! I guess its gotta be all that crawling around all day long. I noticed it a few days ago when I was looking at some of his pictures from a few months ago and I realized his face looks so much slimmer now! Geez, maybe he can share his secrets with me because I am desperately trying to lose some of this baby weight! I guess if he could, he would just tell me "Crawl around a little mom, you'll be in great shape in no time, look at me!". 

Jayden is constantly doing adorable things, this is such a fun age, he is making me laugh ALL THE TIME! Today he was sitting on the couch between his father and I, and he had on a shirt that was a little big for him. He kept pulling the front of his shirt over his whole face and then putting it back down really quick, and looking at me with a huge smile! So I would shout "Peek-a-boo!" everytime he pulled it down, and he went on to do this for at least a few minutes! It was ADORABLE! Of course, I couldn't get it on camera or video because I knew if I got up to get the camera, he would get distracted, and I was enjoying his new trick much too much! Ahhhhh, the best things in life certainly are free :)

A Walk In The Park!!!

After a long and cold winter, we are finally getting some nicer weather out here in Granby. I remember last summer when Jayden was just a newborn, we would drive by parks, and I would think to myself, "Oh, I just can't wait until I can bring him to the park to play!", so yesterday, I flipped on the weather channel, saw that it was 5 degrees celcius, and decided no better time than now to bring Jayden on his first walk to the park! Yay!! So I dressed him up, dressed myself, whipped out the stroller, the camera, and the video camera too *(can you say "first time mom"?)*. Luckily, we have a fabulous park just a short walking distance away. It was kind of windier than I had anticipated once we got outside, but nothing was stopping us now! As we were heading to the park I was praying to god they would have at least one bucket swing, and that there wouldn't be another kid in it, because at 8 months, other than the bucket swing, there's not much a baby can do at the park. To my delight, there was indeed a bucket swing, and we were the only ones at the park! Jayden just loved the swing! He was giggling and smiling as he hung on for dear life. I put him on this other little giraffe swingy thing, but it was just for photo ops. I also put him on the slide, and hung onto his as he slid down slowly, but he looked at me with his bottom lips sticking out and was about to cry, so we cut that slide ride short and went back onto the tried and true: the bucket swing!

Cutest Baby Alert!!

Just to confirm what I already knew, Jayden won a baby contest on the internet last week! Well, he won second place, but the first place winner was wearing a TUTU! How can you compete with that? Really? Of course he is number 1 for us! It was still fun! There were like 200 photos submitted, so seconds place is still pretty impressive.

We had a pretty good week, all in all. Spent last week administering antibiotics to Jayden 3 times a day, for his mysterious bump that had been diagnosed to be "cellulitis" by the shady doctor. So after a whole week of meds, no change. I was freaking out, watching his bump like the freakin stock market, waiting for it to either go up or down, and NOTHING! So saturday morning, we woke up bright and early, and off to see the doctor again! The first doctor had told us if the antibiotics don't work that Jayden would have to be admitted to the hospital and given antibiotics by intervenus! So I was obviously freaking out. It wasn't the same doctor at the clinic (thank god). This new doctor takes a look at Jayden's little cheek and squeezes it a little and proceeds to tell me that it is just a cyst. WHAT?!? He says it's no big deal, it will go away by itself and to stop the antibiotics. OMG, what a relief, but also a frustration that I have been giving my baby antibiotics for a week for NOTHING!

In the same afternoon, we went out for supper at East Side Mario's for my birthday! We had a great supper! Jayden was a little sleepy (sleepy=clingy) so I had him in my lap for most of the supper but, we had a good time regardless. Right before we were about to leave, a group arrived next to us and they had a little girl about a year old. When Jayden spotted her, he was INSTANTLY excited! Oh gosh! He was letting out little yelps of joy and he just had this big smile plastered onto his face! He just LOVES other babies! I wish we knew some people with babies so he could spend some time playing with other kids. When the weather starts to get nice I will bring him to the park. Maybe we will make some friends there!

The Mysterious Bump!

Tuesday morning, Jayden and I woke up, just like every other morning, and what did I find? A little mysterious red bump on his little cheek. Hmmm... Strange. At first I thought nothing of it... Babies are always scratching their faces or bumping into things, so I figured in a couple days it will be gone! WRONG! By thursday I was beginning to worry a bit... This little bump seemed to be taking up residence on my poor Jayden's cheek. Didn't seem normal anymore... So of course, I start doing some research of what it could possibly be, I called the health line for some advice, and the lovely nurse told me to bring him in to see a doctor! So friday morning, we all woke up, and off to the walk-in clinic we went! Well, apparently we didn't wake up quite early enough because by the time we got there, they were full for the day!! AHHH!!! The receptionist told us to bring him to the hospital. I was skeptical about this since there is a huge shortage of doctors here, and usually you have to wait for hours before seeing a doctor. Well we went, we were evaluated by the nurse, who decided that Jayden's bump was last on their list of priorities, told us that he was classified "level 4" which is the least urgent patients, and anyone from then on who came in and was classified at a level above us would be seeing the doctor before us. Basically, we might have to set up a tent and sleeping bags in their waiting room because we would never see a doctor. Although, she did tell us "But he really does need to see a doctor!". Well, at this point there are little bacterias and viruses dancing in my head, and I am thinking we will probably leave this place with a NEW problem if we wait around with all the other people in the waiting room. Not to mention sitting in a small waiting room with an 8 month old is an adventure I am not enthusiastic about in the first place. We decided to go home and try another walk in clinic the next morning, and wake up early enough to get there as soon as it opens. 

So the next morning, we woke up nice and early, and off the the next walk-in clinic we went! Luckily this time we got there early and only had to wait about 45 minutes before seeing the doctor! She quickly diagnosed the mysterious bump, and told us it was cellulitis! Cellulitis?? Like what's on my legs?? Apparently it's a little different. It's a skin infection. So she prescribed some antibiotics for Jayden to take 3 times a day, every 8 hours, for 14 days! Which is kind of a pain because I have to wake him up in the middle of the night to take him medicine. She told us if his bump doesn't look better in 2-3 days to bring him back because he will need to be admitted to the hospital to be observed and to receive stronger antibiotics via intervenus! SCARY! I of course went home and googled Cellulitis, only to become even MORE paranoid! Apparently it can be rather serious! So, now it is Sunday, he has had 3 doses of his antibiotics so far, and I don't know if it's too soon to expect it to have made a difference, but so far I don't see much change! I really hope the antibiotics work because I don't want to bring my poor baby to the hospital to be admitted! 

Jayden's Journal

I realize that the ideal time for starting a blog or a journal for a baby would be either before or right after they are born, but I unfortunately jumped on the band-wagon a little late *sigh*... So here it is... Jayden’s Journal’s FIRST OFFICIAL entry!!! 

Now, I wondered, should I be trying to go back in time and fill in everything Jayden has done in the past nine months that I can possibly remember, with rough estimates as dates and vague descriptions of events, or should I just start with what’s going on now?? After careful consideration, I decided to opt out on hours of trying to remember ever minute detail of my son's first 8 months of life, and just start with what we've been up to lately!

So, just for the sake of starting with something that is exciting, I will back-track *just a bit* to this past week-end! We brought Jayden to the ZOO!!! Yay!! Ok, so it would have been much better during the summer time, but it was fun none the less! I had an old friend of mine come down for the week end with her b/f, and to be honest, it was her idea so I can't really take the credit for the "great idea". It was pretty cold (-16 or so, I believe), so we all got bundled up, and off to the zoo we went! You may be thinking, "Ok, Jayden is 8 months old, can he really appreciate a trip to the zoo?", and I can't blame you because I thought the same thing, but knowing my baby, I knew he would just be happy for the change of scenery! He was pretty content in his stroller, seeing the sights, and probably checking out the random people and children at the zoo rather than the animals, but hey, whatever makes the little guy happy! We were there for probably about 3 hours, and he was a champ! Besides, made for some great photo ops, and gave us all the chance to get out of the house and do something different! 

It was great to have some company this week end. I realized I really like hosting! I was excited all week! Of course, I was mostly excited to see my friend, which I had not seen since February LAST year. She brought Jayden a nice new toy! He was a little standoffish with our company at first, but by the second night, he was sitting on my friend's lap and having a grand ol' time! Hopefully they will come back and see us soon!
